O One who gives ecstasy to the soul without a wine cup,
an ecstasy even better than eternal drunkenness!
Come, if only for one moment.
Give us our blessing,
that moment which is clean of everything, including cleanness.
How long must we wait for that unique moment?
You are the kind of sultan of plunder
who makes even the enemy want to be pillaged.
That’s how great is the greatness of Your pillage.
Is it His form or the form of the universe?
Why doesn’t the soul know the answer to this?
Certainly, feet know if a pair of shoes fits them, belongs to them.
Feet are comfortable in their own shoes.
Someone else’s shoes will always feel tight and uncomfortable.
The mind has this capability,
but is unable to withstand the moment when it is jailed in this world.
The soul knows his peers, his friends,
because in the world of Absence,
such knowledge is given to the soul according to his limits, his capacity.
This is just the same as the grown-up clothes of the prince
being hidden in the basement chest.
Open the lock of the heart and walk toward the treasure.
If you find this treasure, you will have the answers
to all the questions in both worlds.
The tavern of man is the heart.
Such divine drunkenness you can have there!
But, you are a little child yet. Your feet are stuck in the mud. You will have to wait awhile.
But if you do wait awhile, luck may bring a bunch of grapes.
And look. There is dust far away, raised like a flag.
On this flag is written,
“This is the proof, the evidence of the sign of Shams of Tebriz,
to whom all of Tebriz and China are singing praises.”
